Biography Of The Founder And How Tukee Nepal Started?
The organization’s founder, Mr. Ram Sapkota, hails from the remote village of Jyamrung and comes from a family of farmers. Experiencing firsthand the challenges of poverty, especially in accessing education, Ram Sapkota overcame these obstacles to pursue higher education. Witnessing the transformative power of education, he became determined to bring about positive change in his community. Initially working as a trekking guide, Ram used a portion of his earnings to support children’s education in his village.
His advocacy for education expanded to supporting local women and empowering them to speak out against injustice. This led to the establishment of Tukee Nepal Samaj in 2005. Foreign support played a crucial role in the organization’s early days. A chance encounter with a couple and journalist from Sweden, Ewa Söderberg, Dan Söderberg, and Mikael Person, resulted in significant support for Ram’s initiatives. Through community treks, the organization not only improved the conditions of the village but also provided opportunities for locals to benefit from tourism-related activities, ultimately raising the overall quality of life.
