Preparing Pets for Air Travel: A Free Veterinary CE Webinar
A veterinary health certificate is an important part of pet travel, but it does not guarantee that an animal is ready to fly. On November 11, 2026, Vet and Tech will host a free, RACE-approved webinar to help veterinary teams better understand pet travel readiness, identify common preparation mistakes, and support safer travel decisions. Led by airline industry veterinarian Dr. Nelva Bryant, DVM, MPH, the one-credit session will explore how veterinary professionals can take a more comprehensive approach to preparing pets for air travel.

Why Pet Travel Readiness Matters
Veterinary clinics regularly receive requests for health certificates and other travel-related documentation. However, preparing a pet for air travel involves more than completing paperwork. Airline policies, destination regulations, transportation conditions, and the animal’s individual health and welfare all play a role in determining whether a trip can proceed safely.
When travel planning begins too late, veterinary teams may discover important requirements or potential concerns shortly before departure. This can create unnecessary stress for clients, complicate travel arrangements, and leave limited time to address problems.
This webinar will examine how veterinary teams currently handle pet travel requests and where additional guidance may be needed. Drawing on preliminary findings from the When Pets Fly Veterinary Pet Travel Education Interest Survey, the session will explore common clinic workflows, frequent travel-related questions, and areas where veterinary professionals report lower confidence.
The goal is to help clinics move beyond last-minute documentation and develop a more consistent, welfare-focused approach to pet travel preparation.
What Attendees Will Learn
During the session, participants will explore:
- Common pet travel preparation requests received by veterinary clinics
- Pet travel requirements that veterinary teams may find difficult to interpret
- Frequent mistakes in preparing animals for air travel
- Why a veterinary health certificate alone does not establish travel readiness
- How to incorporate animal welfare into pet travel planning
- Why travel-related conversations should begin well before the final paperwork appointment
- Ways to improve consistency and confidence when managing pet travel cases
- How the When Pets Fly Pet Travel Readiness Assessment can support the evaluation process
Attendees will also gain a starting point for developing a clinic pet travel checklist and improving communication with clients before departure dates approach.
