Local Celebrity Roller Skater Kenneth “Rollo” Davis Inspires In D.C. Movie
Local celebrity roller skater Kenneth “Rollo” Davis plays the starring role in the D.C. roller skating culture-based movie “Old School Rollers.” While Creator and Executive Producer Trenillo “Tree” Walters centered the movie around the roller-skating culture in D.C. featuring local skate talent and a go-go music soundtrack, the movie is about so much more. Interviewed by News4’s Tommy McFly, Walters said the movie is based on his youth in D.C. and how roller-skating kept him on the right path.
Walters hopes the film will promote better understanding between generations. The “Old School Rollers” story opens with Anthony Harrison, played by Davis, retiring after over 30 years at the same company. His wife Stacey encourages him to pursue his dream to open a skate school and he finds support in friend and rink owner Keith. While at the rink, Anthony encounters disrespectful younger skaters who tell him he’s too old to be on their skating floor. Their disrespect leads Keith and Anthony to challenge these youth to an all-out old-school vs. new-school skating battle. Reflecting on his involvement, Davis says, “‘Old School Rollers’ is a movie about two generations coming together to address respect.
It’s a movie with a purpose and is something we at Rolloway Productions are honored to be a part of because it stands for positive community, family, and relationships too.” Davis is CEO of Rolloway Productions LLC, the DMV’s premier provider of roller-skating entertainment for any special event – corporate, wedding, birthday, festival, and more – plus community roller-skating instruction from beginner to professional, starting at age three. He founded the company in 2014 believing roller-skating needed more attention than it receives. Davis hopes “Old School Rollers” can show young people you don’t have to be in the streets to have a good time.
