Ghantasala 96 – Tribute To a Musical Genius of 20th Century

October 4, 2018 ( PR Submission Site ) Kala Pradarshini presents ‘Gana Gandharva Ghantasala 96’ on the occasion of the 96th birth anniversary of Padmashree Ghantasala, a celebrated and well-loved musician and composer from Andhra Pradesh. His voice kept the Telugu music industry enthralled for over three decades. Many roads, universities, temples and charities are named after him.  His magnanimous nature and concern for his associates and dependents, lives long after he has passed on.  This initiative began as a result of Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala’s admiration of her father-in-law’s music. Parvathi is the wife of the legendary musician’s second son, Ravi Ghantasala. In a befitting tribute Parvathi and her dance school Kala Pradarshini, have dedicated this day to honour him and keep his legacy alive in the hearts of his undying fans. This event is taking place at Sadguru Gnanananda Hall, Narada Gana Sabha, TTK Road, Alwarpet, Chennai – 600018 on Friday, 5th October 2018 at 05.30 pm.

About Ghantasala 96

The event features dancers performing to songs of Ghantasala, the late musician, singer and composer.  Amidst introductions, the evening will open with performances by Junior super singers from Hyderabad. The songs are compiled by the famous music director – Salluri Vasu Rao, followed by performances by Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala & disciples and legendary dancers – Dr Vyjayanthimala Bali, Dr.  Saroja Vaidhyanathan, Prof. CV Chandrasekhar, Dr Sobha Naidu, The Dhananjayans and Ms. Leela Samson

To honour Shri Ghantasala, an award “Kala Pradarshini Ghantasala Puraskar” was instituted in 2017. This year marks the second year of the awards. It is conferred upon doyens of the art fraternity who have contributed a lifetime in their respective fields.  This year the award will also be conferred upon the performing legendary artists for their contribution to the field of art and culture.

In 2017, Ghantasala 95 was celebrated with grandeur with a galaxy of performers from all over India.  The Kala Pradarshini Ghantasala Puraskar awardees were renowned singer Dr. S.P. Balasubramaniam, legendary dancer Dr. Padma Subramaniam and Chairman of the 80 plus-year-old Nalli business house, known for quality silk products  Dr. Nallikuppasamy Chetti.

As a social initiative and in an effort to contribute to the green cover in Chennai, 1000 saplings will be distributed on the day.
