Facebook updates its crisis response tool to whole another level

New York, Sept 16th, 2017 — Today Facebook announced a new feature in its crisis response tool i.e. crisis information. Now people will be able to find additional information related to the crises such as links to articles, as well as links, videos and photos, publicly posted from the Facebook community. This will allow users all around the globe to know what was really happening there at that time. 

First started as a simple disaster message board after a devastating earthquake that struck japan in 2011, that listed all your friends in the affected area safe have gone through considerable amount of updates which are as follows:-

(2013) Safety Check v1:-

After Boston Marathon Bombing, Facebook held a hackathon and created the early version of the Safety Check product that we all know today.

(2014) Safety Check Launch:-

Facebook officially launched Safety Check in December after Typhoon Ruby struck Philippines and cost many lives.

(2015) Beyond Natural Disaster:-

This year Facebook expanded Safety Check beyond natural disaster. 

(2016) Can be activated by the community:-

During this year Facebook gave rights to the community to activate Safety Check during times of crises.

(2017) Update:-

This year Facebook have provided many updates to this tool which are as follows

1) Launched Community Help:-

In this feature Facebook allowed people to find and give help to the communities in the affected area.

2) Introduced Fundraisers:-

In this feature people in US can raise money for charity and personal causes to help those in need.

3) Established Crisis Response on Facebook:-

Here Facebook introduced a single place for people to access Facebook’s crisis response tool – Safety Check so community and fundraisers can help to support crisis recovery.

4) Added Crisis Information:-

People will now be able to find additional information related to the crisis such as links, videos, photos etc

Now days people are tuning more towards social media platforms for help rather than conventional 911 crisis help. This led to the birth of a new hub where people can ask for help, which takes less amount of time comparatively. 

Facebook, too, says it has seen its users coming together to help one another in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. For example, a man drove  90 minutes on his boat after seeing a call on Facebook asking for people who could help rescue those trapped in their homes.

The Crisis Response hub will appear in the weeks ahead on the Facebook desktop homepage, and in the Facebook menu in the mobile app, the company says.
